This is particularly true with cotton, as those crops are some of the most heavily sprayed with pesticides and are not subject to the same purity regulations as food crops. However, our skin, which is our body’s largest organ, is constantly absorbing substances, harmful as well as beneficial, from the outside in.

The manner in which cotton is produced, conventional vs. organic, has a significant impact on our world.

Conventionally grown cotton consumes approximately 25% of the insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides used in the world, and utilizes one third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to produce enough cotton for one t-shirt.

Organic farms respect water resources, build healthy soil, and work in harmony with nature through the reduction of pesticides, minimizing the negative impact on our environment. Organically grown practices rely on physical removal of weeds through cultivation and hand hoeing, and use beneficial insects and biological and cultural practices to control pests among other natural techniques.
